Essential oils come from various parts of raw plant material (such as flower, leaves, bark, seed, root, fruit). Some plants only produce a single oil (eg: lavender, peppermint, lemon). Other plants produce several oils from different parts of the plant. For example, the orange tree can produce petitgrain, neroli and orange essential oil, all from different parts of the same plant.

Let’s start with what they do for plants. Plants produce essential oils and use them to interact with their environment – to resist microbes, to seal and heal wounds, to defend against leaf eating predators, and attract pollinators. Basically, to survive and thrive.  Similarly, they can benefit humans. They’re also beneficial to our happiness, emotions and overall health.

Here are some other well known applications – to increase mental alertness, improve sleep, improve athletic performance, support hormonal balance and reduce oxidative stress.

Why not purchase something from the grocery store to clean my house? why not buy a bottle of perfume from the chemist or department store? Well, essential oils offer a natural and holistic approach to a healthier lifestyle. When we work directly with mother nature’s essence, there is harmony within our bodies. We are reducing or eliminating our exposure to potentially toxic, man-made synthetic chemicals.

Not only are you replacing toxic chemicals from your home, you’re also supporting your body’s innate ability to function optimally. 

Essential oils contain therapeutic plant constituents that communicate intelligently with our cells. Their aromatic molecules have a direct impact on the limbic system – which is responsible for regulating emotions, memory, hormones, breathing, and blood pressure to name a few. 

Essential oils are more than just fragrant liquids with a pleasant aroma. They possess a remarkable ability to promote physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing by harnessing the power of therapeutic properties found in nature. Ancient knowledge has taught us that they are intelligent and reliable. Modern science has helped us realise their full potential

Why Breathwork?

In the classical body of work, essential oils are defined as concentrated, aromatic extracts typically obtained through steam distillation or cold pressing of botanical material.

My personal definition is – they are mother nature’s quintessential answer to balance, well-being and whole health. 

A simple answer? they are the energetic signature of mother nature’s botanicals, expressed through liquid aroma.

Yes, as long as the oils are 100% pure and unadulterated. It’s also important to use proper dilution with carrier oils particularly for “hot” oils. Avoid using phototoxic oils when going out into the sun to minimize the risk of burning. If you’re new to essential oils, it’s always good to perform a patch test first. 

No, not really. It depends on skin type, age and the essential oil you’re using. My rule of thumb in general is 1 drop for every 10 kg of body weight. Dilute with enough carrier oil to make it easy to cover the surface area you’re working on.

Yes. As long as they are 100% pure and unadulterated. Dilution with a carrier oil is recommended. Avoid application to face and mucus membranes. Start low and go slow. Young Living has a dedicated line of essential oils for children and pets. Follow label instructions. Certain oils should be avoided for cats.

They also have a line of supplements infused with essential oils, clinically proven to increase uptake. Be sure to use only glass or ceramic when using oils in beverages.
